Google AI Overviews
Google AI Overviews are the AI-generated summaries Google places at the top of many search results, answering the query directly and citing a handful of sources above the traditional blue links.
Also searched as: AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, SGE.
Because the Overview sits above organic results and often answers the question outright, it has accelerated 'zero-click' behavior: the user gets what they need without visiting a site. For brands, the goal shifts from 'rank #1' to 'be one of the cited sources inside the Overview.'
Overviews lean heavily on content that classic search already trusts plus sources that state answers plainly. Reddit, YouTube, and Wikipedia appear disproportionately often as cited sources, which is why off-site presence matters as much as on-page optimization.
